Hashemi, Mehdi (born 1946, Langroud)

Born Mir Mehdi Hashemi Qermezi, he began acting in plays alongside Daryoush Farhang in 1969.

He graduated in Dramatic Arts from the Tehran University Faculty of Fine Arts in 1973.

Hashemi is an actor, director, screenwriter and playwright. He is married to actress Golab Adineh and his brother, Nasser Hashemi, is a director.

The Iranian actor has been praised for his cinematic and theater performances, and has appeared in the works of major industry names such as Bahram Beizaee and Rakhshan Bani-Etemad.

His cinematic debut was in Khosrow Sinai’s 'Viva' (1979).

But it was his role in the TV series 'Sultan and the Shepherd' (1981-1984) that brought him nationwide recognition and fame.

He has appeared in several movies, such as 'The Death of Yazdgerd' (1982), 'Let Me Live' (1986), 'The Stranger' (1987), 'Silent Hunting' (1989), 'Ali and Jungle Ghoul' (1990), 'Nassereddin Shah Film Actor' (1991), 'The World's Best Dad' (1991), 'Diplomat' (1995), 'Report Card Day' (2002), 'Extra Time' (2007), 'Mermaid' (2008), 'Nothing' (2009), 'The Elevator ' (2009), 'Tales' (2011), 'The President's Cell Phone' (2011), 'Bulletproof' (2012), 'Golden Diet' (2012) and 'Tragedy' (2013).

He was nominated multiple times for the Fajr Festival Crystal Simorgh Best Male Actor in a Leading Role award for his performances in 'Two Films With One Ticket' (1990), 'Out of Range' (1987), 'Spouse' (1993), 'The Miracle of Laughter' (1996), 'Yousef' (2010) and 'Alzheimer' (2010). He won the award for 'Two Films With One Ticket'.

Hashemi also has experienced writing and directing for series and movies, such as 'Sultan and the Shepherd', 'White Mountains' (1997-1998), 'White Wings' (1998) and 'Night Path' (2006).
