2019 Cannes Film Festival has revealed poster paying homage to French director Agnes Varda.
The poster features the director when she was 26 while making 'La Pointe Courte' cited by many critics as a forerunner of the French New Wave.
“This photo from the set sums up everything about Agnes Varda," an accompanying message from the festival press release said, adding she had the "ingredients of a free artist, forming a recipe she never stopped improving."
The fitting and timely tribute comes as the "grandmother of French cinema" passed away last month.
In 2015, Varda became the first woman to be awarded an honorary Palme d'Or.
The 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to be held from May 14-25, 2019 in France.
