Iran’s ‘Beloved’ to compete in Australia

Iranian doc ‘Beloved’ is to compete at the Persian Film Festival in Australia.

Directed by Yasser Talebi, the documentary ‘Beloved’ has been selected to compete at the 8th edition of the Persian Film Festival in Australia.

The doc is about the difficult but favorable life of an 82-year-old mother named Firouzeh who runs a unique life in the Alborz Mountains, north of Iran.

Firouzeh hikes across the rugged landscape carrying bundles of wood and keeping cattle to make a living. When she was a young girl, a marriage was arranged for her with an older man, with whom she had 11 children. Now, none of her children come to visit her and her attempts to get closer to them remain futile.

The doc has succeeded to grab several awards at different global events, including Special Jury Award at the Religion Today Film Festival in Italy, Best Cinematography Award at the Symi International Film Festival in Greece, and Best Film Award at the Nuovi Mondi Film Festival in Italy.

The Persian Film Festival screens the best of Iranian cinema and the Persian speaking world in Australia.

Established in 2011, the fest showcases films from Persian-speaking filmmakers from Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. The event holds master classes and cultural events.

The 2019 edition of the event is slated for December 4-8, 2019.
