Cinema Verite to go online over coronavirus spike

The 14th Cinema Verite is set to be held online due to a spike in Iran’s coronavirus cases.

The organizers of the 14th edition of the Cinema Verite, Iran's major documentary film festival, have scheduled to hold the gala online.

The event will be held totally online due to a sharp rise in Iran’s coronavirus cases over the past month.

The decision was made during a meeting with the executives, the Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC), the main organizer of the festival, announced on Saturday.

The organizers have also discussed reviewing the acclaimed movies of the previous editions of the Cinema Verite.

Moreover, they are planning to dedicate a special section to documentaries related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier last week, the DEFC director Mohammad Hamidi-Moqaddam announced the gala’s plan to pay tribute to the late Iranian filmmaker Khosro Sinaee.

Organized by the DEFC, the first edition of the Cinema Verite was held in 2007. Over the past decade, it has emerged as one of the important events on Iran's documentary calendar.

The 14th Cinema Verite will be held online in December 2020.
