Written and directed by Ali Zare-Qanatnowi, the Iranian animation depicts an old woman looking for the return of her missing son from the battleground of an imposed war.
The animation was designed and produced in more than two years.
It combines 2D and 3D animation techniques for the first time in Iranian cinema.
‘Empty View’ has won several global awards, including best animation award at the UK Monthly Film Festival, Best Animation award at the Los Angeles Film Awards in the US, Best Short Film Award at the 6th Seoul Guro International Kids Film Festival in South Korea, Award of Excellence at the 6th Canada Shorts Film Festival, and best animation award at the 2018 Strasburg Film Festival in the US.
The animated piece has also won four awards at the 3rd Best Short Fest in Canada, the 3rd Great Message International Film Festival in India, the 2018 Raíces International Short Film Festival in Argentina, and the 8th Amsterdam Film Festival in the Netherlands.
Nominated for best animation award at the Asians on Film Festival in the US, Empty View’ has also gone on screen at the Athens Animfest in Greece, the London City Film Awards in the UK, the FRICINE Festival in Brazil, the Tbilisi International Animation Festival in Georgia, "My Mumbai" International Film Festival in India, the Southampton International Film Festival in the UK, the California Independent Film Festival in the US, the Bronx World Film Cycle in the US, the Alpin Film Festival in Romania, and the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia in Japan.
The Nuovi Mondi Film Festival is the smallest film festival in the world. It takes place in a very small village in the Southern Italian Alps, where only 80 persons live.
The 9th edition of the Nuovi Mondi Film Festival is slated for September 19-27, 2020.
