Iranian film ’Ava’ by Sadaf Foroughi has been selected to go on screen at the 41st edition of the Portland International Film Festival (PIFF) in the US.
The flick will go on the PIFF screen two times on February 17 and 24, 2018.
A joint product of Iran, Canada and Qatar, the film tells the story of a 17-year-old girl who is influenced by the life of her family and her friends. So she decides to make some changes in their lives.
Ava’s life is dictated by rules. Coming of age, she faces pressure to conform to the expectations of her parents, her school, and her friends. When her mother takes her to a doctor to confirm her virginity, Ava rebels, opening a rift that reveals secrets her parents have hidden from their only daughter.
‘Ava’ has gone on screen in Canada at the Toronto International Film Festival and grabbed International Critics’ Award (FIPRESCI) as well as Honorable Mention as Best Canadian First Feature Film.
The first feature film by Foroughi, was recently nominated in eight categories at the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.
The PIFF has been held annually since 1977 in Oregon.
The 41st edition of the event is slated for February 15 to March 1, 2018.
