Good teamwork has always been my main concern, veteran Iranian director Ali Rafiei says.
The prominent screen and stage director made the remarks during the celebration of his 80th birthday at an event in Tehran on Thursday.
“I am full of energy and motivation to work and regret those works I did not stage years ago and I want to remain useful for the theater,” Rafiei said to a crowd of thespians from different generations.
He went on to announce a series of nine future productions by different playwrights and actors to be performed at different venues.
“Therefore, I am planning a workshop to try out a new idea, which has been implemented in Europe for the past few years,” he said, adding that, “I am determined to invite 20 to 25 actors to the workshop and begin constant rehearsals.”
A professional physical theater expert from France will also be invited to attend the workshop, he said.
Born in 1938 in Isfahan, Rafiei has made four films and participated in numerous plays as a writer, director and stage designer.
Rafiei was honored with a lifetime achievement award at the closing ceremony of the 35th Fajr International Theater Festival last year.
