Iranian short film ‘The People Smuggler’ has been set to screen at the 2019 edition of the Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival in the US.
Directed by Amir-Reza Jalalian, the short will be shown at the New Realities- Short Package section of the American film event. Five other shorts from countries such as Mexico and Denmark are also competing at this section of the festival.
A brief synopsis of the 20-minute flick reads, “In a border jungle area, an anonymous old man smuggles people across the border. But, as he knows that passing the border is impossible and most often the border guards shoot the people who wander in the jungle, he just accompanies people into the woods and then leaves them alone for the rest of the path.
Once a young couple in search of help go to him. The old man accepts unwillingly to help. During the path some events occur which are not like the past ones.”
The Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival, which is a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards since 2002, is organized annually by the Flickers Arts Collaborative, a non-profit arts organization.
The 23rd edition of the event is slated for August 6-11, 2019.
