Italian website chooses 6 best Iranian short films

Good Short Films website selects 6 Iranian titles as bests of past years.

An Italian website, Good Short Films, has selected six titles as the bests of Iran in the recent past years.

The picked works are as follows:

‘Gaze’ by Farnoush Samadi

The short narrates the story of a woman who while coming back from work witnesses a boy stealing in the bus.

The short has participated at more than 90 film festivals around the globe and won many awards. It was also qualified for Academy Awards.


‘AniMal’ by Bahman & Bahram Ark

Ark brothers’ title shows the viewer to what extent one can go if he wants to get out of his country.

The short has been screened at more than 60 international film festivals. The ‘AniMal’ was also selected at the Cannes Film Festival Cinéfondation.


‘Retouch’ by Kaveh Mazaheri

The short tells the touching story of a woman who makes a strange decision. She could save her husband’s life, but decided to stay there and watch him die.

The short has been at more than 150 festivals and won numerous awards.


‘Not Yet’ by Arian Vazir-Daftari

Vazir-Daftari’s film narrates the story of a couple who use Skype to meet their daughter, who is studying abroad, to wish her a happy birthday. This couple tries to conceal the fact that their marriage is failing.

The short has been a success and vied at more than 80 international film festivals.


‘Lunch Time’ by Alireza Qasemi

The shocking short film narrates the story of a 15-year-old girl who goes to the hospital to identify her dead mother’s corpse.

The short has been selected at more than 50 film festivals around the world. It also was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.


‘The Baby’ by Ali Asgari

Asgari’s short title tells the story of a young mother who is facing difficulties to find a place for her baby to spend the night at.

‘The Baby’ was nominated for the Best Short Film at the Venice Film Festival and has won many other accolades.

Based on the Good Short Films website, it is the first Italian web platform that is entirely dedicated to short films.

The purpose of the website is to promote the genre of short film, gather a large international audience and create a network of emerging talents.
