Iranian actress Behnoush Tabatabaee has been selected to play the role of Mary Poppins in a musical.
Directed by Ahmad Soleymani, ‘Mary Poppins’ is the third musical play to go on stage after ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘Oliver Twist’.
‘Mary Poppins’ tells the story of Jane and Michael, the children of the wealthy and uptight Banks family. When they are faced with the prospect of a new nanny, they are pleasantly surprised by the arrival of the magical Mary Poppins.
Embarking on a series of fantastical adventures with Mary and her Cockney performer friend, Bert, the siblings try to pass on some of their nanny's sunny attitude to their preoccupied parents.
Born in 1981, Tabatabaee’s debut drama was ‘Damoon Alley’ in 1999 and then she became a household name after playing a role in the drama ‘Passenger from India’ (2002).
She has played roles in various movies, including ‘Hardships of the Maiden’ (2006), ‘Flying Crow’ (2007) and ‘Banana Peel’ (2008).
She has also starred in dramas such as ‘Cocoons of Flight’ (2004-2005), ‘The Rise of Mokhtar’ (2010),’ The Forgotten’ (2011) and ‘Michael’ (2015).
