The 61st ZINEBI International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao in Spain is to play host to two short films from Iran.
Ghasideh Golmakani’s ‘Violet’ and ‘Exam’ by Sonia Haddad will represent Iran at the International Competition (Short Films) section of the Spanish film event.
The 15-min ‘Violet’ short fiction film is about Azi, a young girl who feels lonely despite having a big family. On the day of her sister’s wedding, Azi notices that the wedding rings are lost and she tries to find them before the ceremony.
Haddad’s ‘Exam’ is about a teenage girl who agrees to deliver a pack of cocaine on the day of an important exam at school.
'Exam' was previously screened at the ‘Short Cuts Program’ section of the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). It also competed at the third edition of the El Gouna Film Festival in Egypt where it received the Golden Star award of the festival.
Screenings of the official selection of films in ZINEBI are divided in three categories (documentary, fiction and animation). The festival program also features a series of complementary events. Shorts and documentaries from different countries are chosen for the competition by the selection committee, and compete for the Mikeldi awards.
The ZINEBI film festival will be held from November 8 to 15, 2019.
