Barack, Michelle Obama doc clinches Oscars nomination

Barack and Michelle Obama’s doc ‘American Factory’ earns an Oscar nod.

Barack and Michelle Obama’s first documentary film ‘American Factory’ has been nominated for an Oscar at the 92nd Academy Awards.

‘American Factory’, which is released by America’s 44th president's production company Higher Ground in partnership with Netflix, earned the first-ever nod in the best documentary feature category.

The documentary first debuted during the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.

‘American Factory’ is about a culture clash at a Dayton, Ohio manufacturing plant. It gives a look into the struggling auto-industry through the eyes of employees at a car factory, highlighting their struggles when a foreign company enters the market and re-opens a General Motors factory.

The film will compete in its category against ‘The Cave’, ‘The Edge of Democracy’, ‘For Sama’ and ‘Honeyland’.

The 92nd Academy Awards will air live February 9 on ABC.
