Shorts Mexico to host ‘Granddad Was a Romantic’

Iranian short ‘Granddad Was a Romantic’ is to compete at the Shorts Mexico.

Internationally acclaimed Iranian short animation ‘Granddad Was a Romantic’ has been selected to screen at the Shorts Mexico-Festival Internacional de Courtometrages de Mexico (international festival of short films).

Directed by Maryam Mohajer, the BAFTA winning short will be among the competing flicks at the 15th edition of the Mexican film event.

The short is the story of a little kid who narrates their grandfather’s love tale and the course of events that will change his life. When granddad sees a photograph of the grandma, he instantly falls in love. This limitless romance inspires the kid in this story.

The animation has been already screened at various global events, including the Athens Animfest in Greece, the Tribeca Film Festival in the US and the Encounters Film Festival in the UK.

According to the official website of the Shorts Mexico, it “is an exhibition platform specializing in short films. It promotes cinema creative expressions, diverse voices, distinctive and innovative visions, bold quality films from filmmakers from all over the world”.

Besides ‘Granddad Was a Romantic’, some other Iranian short films will also vie at the fest, which is slated for September 2-9, 2020.
