Full list of winners at 77th Venice Film Festival is revealed

The 77th Venice Film Festival in Italy announces full list of winners.

The 77th edition of the Venice Film Festival in Italy has announced the full list of its winners.

Winners of the event were announced by the four international Juries during the Awards Ceremony on Saturday, September 12.

The Venezia 77 Jury, chaired by Cate Blanchett and comprised of Matt Dillon, Veronika Franz, Joanna Hogg, Nicola Lagioia, Christian Petzold and Ludivine Sagnier, announced the winners as follows:

Golden lion for best film to ‘Nomadland’ by Chloé Zhao from the US

Silver lion - grand jury prize to ‘Nuevo Orden’ (new order) by Michel Franco from Mexico and France

Silver lion - award for best director to Kiyoshi Kurosawa for ‘Spy No Tsuma’ (wife of a spy) from Japan

Special jury prize to ‘Dorogie Tovarischi!’ (dear comrades!) by Andrei Konchalovsky from Russia

Award for best screenplay to Chaitanya Tamhane for ‘The Disciple’ from India

Coppa Volpi for best actress to Vanessa Kirby for ‘Pieces of a Woman’ by Kornél Mundruczó from Canada and Hungary

Coppa Volpi for best actor to Pierfrancesco Favino for ‘Padrenostro’ by Claudio Noce from Italy

Marcello Mastroianni award for best young actor or actress to Rouhollah Zamani for ‘Sun Children’ by Majid Majidi from Iran


The Orizzonti Jury, chaired by Claire Denis and composed of Oskar Alegria, Francesca Comencini, Katriel Schory and Christine Vachon, announced the winners as follows:

The Orizzonti award for best film to ‘The Wasteland’ by Ahmad Bahrami from Iran

The Orizzonti award for best director to Lav Diaz for ‘Lahi, Hayop’ (genus pan) from the Philippines

The special Orizzonti jury prize to ‘Listen’ by Ana Rocha de Sousa from the UK and Portugal

The Orizzonti award for best screenplay to Pietro Castellitto for ‘I Predatori’ from Italy

The Orizzonti award for best actress to Khansa Batma for ‘Zanka Contact’ by Ismaël El Iraki from France, Morocco, and Belgium

The Orizzonti award for best actor to Yahya Mahayni for ‘The Man who Sold His Skin’ by Kaouther Ben Hania from Tunisia, France, Germany, Belgium, and Sweden

The Orizzonti award for best short film to ‘Entre Tú y Milagros’ by Mariana Saffon from Colombia and the US

The Venice short film nomination for the European film awards 2020 to ‘The Shift’ by Laura Carreira from the UK and Portugal


Lion of the Future – “Luigi De Laurentiis” Venice Award for a Debut Film Jury at the 77th Venice Film Festival, chaired by Claudio Giovannesi and comprised of Rémi Bonhomme and Dora Bouchoucha, presented Lion of the Future award, Venice award for a debut film to ‘Listen’ by Ana Rocha de Sousa from the UK and Portugal.


The Venice VR Expanded Jury, chaired by Céline Tricart and composed of Asif Kapadia and Hideo Kojima, announced the winners as follows:

The grand jury prize for best VR immersive work to ‘The Hangman at Home – an Immersive Single User Experience’ by Michelle and Uri Kranot from Denmark, France, and Canada

The best VR immersive user experience to ‘Finding Pandora X’ by Kiira Benzing from the US

The best VR immersive story to ‘Sha Si Da Ming Xing’ (killing a superstar) by Fan Fan from China


The Venezia 77, one of the oldest film events in the world and Europe, was held on September 2-12, 2020 in Venice, Italy.
