Iranian film ‘The Badger’ to vie at Derby fest

Iranian ‘The Badger’ is to compete at the 2020 Derby Film Festival in the UK.

Iranian feature ‘The Badger’ has been selected to compete at the seventh edition of the Derby Film Festival (DFF) in the UK.

Directed by Kazem Mollaee, the feature film is about a woman named Soudeh who lives with her son in an old apartment.

A synopsis of the film on the DFF official website reads, “Right before Soudeh Sharifzadegan’s second marriage, her 11-year old son, Matiar, is kidnapped. In desperation, she is forced to turn to her ex-husband for help in securing the ransom money. This act sparks off an exploration of past family tensions and the breakdown of relationships. A modern vision of Iran through the eyes of a modern Iranian woman”.

Hassan Majouni, Behnoush Bakhtiyari, Reza Behboudi, Vishka Asayesh, Mehraveh Sharifinia, and Gohar Kheirandish are on the cast list of ‘The Badger’.

The flick recently won the Best Narrative film award at the 27th Austin Film Festival as well as the grand prize for the best foreign feature at the 29th Berkeley Video & Film Festival, both in the US.

The Iranian feature is also the winner of a nomination for best film award at the 13th Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival in the US.

The DFF brings together film fans, filmmakers and industry figures. The event includes panel discussions, workshops, and master classes.

The upcoming edition of the DFF will be held on November 19-23, 2020.
