Directors are commonly behind the camera, but every once in a while they opt to appear in a cameo or co-starring roles. Iranian directors are no exception to the rule.
While directing a movie is no easy feat, the following Iranian directors took the chance to make cameos in their movies.
War movie director Ebrahim Hatamikia has made the likes of ‘Chamran’, ‘Low Heights’ and ‘Bodyguard’. The talented Iranian director has performed a role in ‘The Private Life of Mr. & Mrs. M’ by Rouhollah Hejazi. He played a rich man in a few scenes there.
While Director Haqiqi has some cameos, he is in a way exceptional on this list for being considered as a well-established actor in Iranian cinema following some co-starring roles. ‘No Men Allowed’ and ‘The Good, the Bad, the Corny’ feature some of his longer impressive roles.
Davoudnejad is a veteran Iranian filmmaker and has directed ‘Amorously’ (1995), ‘Sweet Agony’ (1999) and ‘Actors Studio’ (2013). Last year, he went before the camera to play a role in the movie ‘Butterfly Stroke’ directed by Mohammad Kart and had a short appearance in this work.
The director has twice acted in his own movies; namely, ‘Smell of Camphor, Fragrance of Jasmine’ and 'Tale of the Sea'. According to Farman-Ara, Iranian auteur Abbas Kiarostami advised him to act in his own films and he rightly took his pointer.
