Prominent American actor Morgan Freeman is to play the role of former US Secretary of State Colin Powell in an upcoming biopic.
Freeman will star in Reginald Hudlin’s ‘Powell’, a film set during the former US Secretary of State’s time in the White House serving under president George W. Bush.
‘Powell’ depicts the life and career of a man who was involved in militarism and became the first black Secretary of State.
The 2003 speech of Colin Powell in support of Bush's plan for a military strike against Iraq is the subject of the film.
Powell later admitted that he had made this speech without serious evidence that Saddam Hussein's regime would hide weapons of mass destruction and use them in the war.
US actor Morgan Freeman will also take reign as producer of the film.
Freeman expressed his satisfaction with the film as it deals more in-depth with Colin Powell's legacy.
